Children Medieval Band

gate2

After one of our videos went viral on youtube, and got posted on the Rammstein official site (sometimes in April 2012 – and again, more recently in 2016, with same video! viewed by 10 million on facebook), a lot of people wanted to find out more about this kids group.
An article has been submitted to wikipedia a while ago, but got rejected…
Also mass-media totally ignored this interesting young band – and this proves something – completely oblivious to important events like, for instance, the great performance of these kids in front of 10,000, when opening for the Rammstein concert in Denver, Colorado.

The main goals of our activity are:

  • to promote the medieval music as an alternative in music education,
  • to have a good influence on other kids so they choose good music as opposed to most of the mainstream,
  • to learn and promote the “good rock” – sincere, rebel, strong and heart-felt – as opposed to “evil-rock” and “frivolous-rock” (‘drugs-sex-rr’, ‘shake-butt’ and ‘aspartame’ mainstream pollution).

Formed in the spring of 2011, Children Medieval Band became quickly known because of several unique features:

The enumeration above may look as a lack of modesty, but these are facts, and omitting them would be unfair for the kids, after all their efforts. Being taught to be modest, they know there are many other children very talented with amazing singing or instrumental performances. But they are also aware of their own accomplishments. In less than 3 years (2011-2014), practicing not more than one hour per day, they succeeded:
1. as medieval music performers as they already participated with great success at several Renaissance Faires.
2. as Rammstein young admirers as they made several R+ covers which became popular on youtube, and even played live on stage, opening for Rammstein themselves in Denver 2012.
3. as Beatles music fans as they learned and recorded several Beatles covers, and one got featured recently on a Beatles TV commercial.

The line-up
Stefan (14 yo) – voice, guitar, violin, recorder, keyboard, etc…
and his two sisters:
Olga (13 yo) – keyboard, voice, violin, recorder
Cornelia (10 yo) – drum, harp, voice
(updated ages in 2016)

Many visitors to our site would like to know what country we are from.
Stefan and his two sisters (as well as the parents) are US citizens of Romanian nationality, living in Southern California (previously in Colorado).

Style and influences
This young band likes the “good” rock and avoids frivolous rock and evil rock. We call it “tense rock”. Our first album – “Treasure Underground” – reflects this.
The main influences are Beatles, Cream, Stranglers and Rammstein.
We are trying to find our own style: a fusion of heavy tense industrial metal, with elements of medieval music. CMB is one of the very few neo-medieval bands in USA.
Besides playing rock, we also have participated at several Medieval Faires in California, where we played only medieval songs. Trying to promote the early medieval fairy tale music as an alternative in music education is one of our goals.

Background
The group has been formed in the spring of 2011 by the kids themselves. Stefan came out with two composition attempts and the girls joined him with enthusiasm.
While learning and playing medieval music (several videos posted on youtube), they also started doing covers of rock songs, mostly as a learning project. They played and posted on youtube.com three 60’s songs and three Rammstein covers. They quickly became popular on youtube, the cover of Sonne reaching more than 2 million views in a few weeks.

On May 20th 2012, the kids from Children Medieval Band played live as an opening act for the Rammstein show in Denver. It was a great audience. The kids performed very well. They met with the Rammstein group members, took pictures, had interesting discussions. It was a memorable evening.

Reviews from Amazon – about our 1st album:

    • Inventive, pure, audacious, and refreshing.
These kids have made a genuine effort to find their own voice and as a result ten emotionally rich songs have been created. I cannot wait to hear their upcoming releases.

    • This is better than most records put out by adults.
It’s creative, inventive and sounds solid. I would’ve killed to put out a record this good when i was 13. These kids have got something special Can’t wait to see where these kids are in 10 years.

    Our plans for the future?
To continue learning Early Music, to play a few more covers of most notable rock bands and to continue creating our own compositions.

My children came across some of your YouTube videos while our 8 year old was looking for the song Love me Do that he is learning on his harmonica.
I would like to tell you about a free music camp our family is sponsoring for talented young musicians. We will have the camp in Galveston Texas from July 28-Aug.1st. It is a free day camp. The purpose of the camp is to provide a fun week for the kids to play with other young musicians, learn from each other and recieve coaching from experienced band members on performance of their skills.
Bunk room facilities are available free of charge for out of town campers and their families during the week.
A large number of the participants are homeschooled children. The camp is for young musicians ages 8-18 that already play or sing. The camp will accept 50 campers by audition. They will be placed in ensembles and assigned a short song list to learn before camp starts. They then come together to play as a band and provide a concert for the community at The Grand Opera House in Galveston,Texas. We will have six experienced instructors, five of which are band members themselves. The music will be of appropriate content for the age groups. The music genre is pretty broad and open to suggestions still, but mostly blue’s/rock/funk/soul type music so far.
The only expense to be in the camp would be for getting here!
We loved seeing your kids perform and think that they would be an asset to our camp.
Contact me at sywyrick@ hotmail.com if you are interested in the children auditioning for the camp.
      Have a blessed day,
      Sharon Wyrick

        Hello,
I contacted you several months ago to let you know about a music camp we are having in Galveston,Texas. This is a Homeschool family privately sponsored free camp for aspiring young musicians and bands. The purpose is to give our young musicians a time and place to get together and learn from some great instructors, and from each other, while enjoying being in the company of those that share their interest in making and performing music.
You expressed an interest, but was unsure of your schedule at the time. I thought I would let you know that the camp with 36 young musicians enrolled, has 4 openings left. If you are interested in attending and able to get to Galveston for the week, we would love to have you join us. July 28-Aug.1st. A concert at The Grand Opera House in Galveston concludes the camp on Friday evening,Aug. 1st. Bunk room type overnight facilities are available at the camp.
I loved listening to your videos. Keep up the great work. You all sound awesome!
        Sincerely and musically,
        Sharon Wyrick

Hello, I’m a musician and song writer myself. I took piano lessons as a child and quit in the 8th grade because I absolutely hated lessons and hated the songs I was forced to play. Then I started playing guitar/drums when I was 20 years old and have been writing and recording song ideas ever since. Your band is doing what I wish I could have been doing when I was a child – playing freely and not being burdened by ambition and repetitive lessons. Many of CMB’s original songs are very similar in style to my own songs. I’m so impressed by the maturity of your compositions! Enjoying music is the most important thing about music! Keep up the good work and please let me know if you ever want help with artwork. I would be happy to volunteer my services for CMB!

LONG time fan….always keep rocking! You are simply great! (Hendrix and Rammstein, wow!)

    11. Hello there, CMB! I’ve enjoyed your videos on YouTube and ordered your album “Treasure Underground” about two years ago. Unfortunately, I was never able to burn it to a CD after successfully downloading it to Windows Media Platyer, but I have faith that will be resolved eventually. In the meantime, I hope you’ll consider coming to my hometown of Sacramento to perform this year. My friend Jerry Perry, who books and promotes both local and touring acts up here, is very supportive of young talent. I’m sure he would welcome you to our city with open arms. You can reach him on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/jerryPerry03. I’ll pass on information about you just in case you do contact him. Keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be seeing you live very soon!

Auch, sorry for the late answer, didn’t notice your comment before. We would have loved to travel to Sacramento, unfortunately, for various reasons, we’ll move to Maine in a couple of weeks. We’ll spend this summer working on our new album. At least send us your mailing address, and we’ll ship the ‘Treasure Underground’ CD for you.
Hopefully next year we’ll be more available and we’ll try a small tour. We’ll keep Sacramento in mind, especially that we have friends in Reno-Nevada, which is not too far.
        Thank you!

        • Thank you for your reply! My name is Wayne Chapman and my address is 2615 H Street #13, Sacramento, CA 95816. Best of luck on all your future endeavors in Maine and elsewhere. Perhaps I’ll see you in Sacramento someday, but I’ll definitely be enjoying “Treasure Underground” whether you make it here or not.

    12. MedievalUser says:

Ok, we’ll mail a cd in a couple of days. Thanks!

    13. Just found your album on amazon music. It was basically the only thing that popped up when I typed in ‘renaissance rock music’ but I’m not complaining one bit. Absolutely love the album. Really impressed to see such young musicians manage to establish such a honed and individual sound. Well done.
